Entry Requirements for Foundation Programme

General Entry Requirement – Malaysian Applicants

  • A Malaysian citizen
  • A pass with at least 5 credits including Bahasa Melayu at SPM Level and
  • A pass in Sejarah at SPM Level

Special Entry Requirements

Physical Science

A pass in SPM / SPMV level with credits in at least 5 (Five) of the taken subjects including:

– Mathematics

– Chemistry

– Physics

– Additional Mathematics

– ONE (1) credit from any other subjects.

OR

A pass in O-Level with at least Grade B in any 3 of the taken subjects including Mathematics and two Science subjects.

OR

Other equivalent qualification recognized by the government.

 

Life Science

A pass in SPM / SPMV with credits in at least 5 (Five) of the taken subjects including:

– Mathematics

– Chemistry

– Physics/ Biology

– Additional Mathematics

– ONE (1) credit from any other subjects.

OR

A pass in O-Level with at least Grade B in any 3 of the taken subjects including Mathematics and two Science subjects.

OR

Other equivalent qualification recognized by the government.

 

Social Science

A pass in SPM / SPMV with credits in at least 5 (Five) of the taken subjects including Mathematics.

OR

A pass in O-Level with at least Grade B in any 3 of the taken subjects including Mathematics.

OR

Other equivalent qualification recognized by the government

 

Entry Requirement – International Students

Physical Science

Pass O-Level with at least a Grade B in 3 subjects including Mathematics and two Science subjects.

OR

Other equivalent school qualifications recognized by the Malaysian Government.

AND

In accordance with the country requirements as approved by the University Senate.

 

Life Science

Pass O-Level with at least a Grade B in 3 subjects including Mathematics and two Science subjects.

OR

Other equivalent school qualifications recognized by the Malaysian Government.

AND

In accordance with the country requirements as approved by the University Senate.

 

Social Science

Pass O-Level with at least a Grade B in 3 subjects including Mathematics.

OR

Other equivalent school qualifications recognized by the Malaysian Government.

AND

In accordance with the country requirements as approved by the University Senate.

Programme Synopsis

  • Concentration on Physical Science

This programme is designed for candidates who wish to continue their first degree in engineering and science. Students will be reinforced with basic engineering and science background, especially on Physics, Mathematics and Computers. Students must fulfill the required graduating credit through coursework and laboratory work. A total of 50 credit hours must be accomplished with a minimum CGPA of 2.0. Upon completion of this programme, student will be awarded with CERTIFICATE OF FOUNDATION PROGRAMME. Under physical science concentration, students  may continue their study in Science, Engineering and Technology fields for their first-degree such as, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and any other related fields offered by UTM or other institutions.

  • Concentration of Life Science

    This programme is designed for candidates who wish to pursue their studies in life science. Focusing on certain courses such as Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Computer. Students must fulfill the required graduating credit through coursework and laboratory work. A total of 50 credit hours must be accomplished with a minimum CGPA of 2.0. Upon completion of this programme, student will be awarded with CERTIFICATE OF FOUNDATION PROGRAMME. After completing this programme, life science students may then continue their study in Science and Technology fields for their first-degree, such as Industrial Biology, Biology, Chemistry and any other related fields offered by UTM or other institutions. Life Science students may as well further their study in Medical Degree upon acceptance from institutions.

  • Concentration of Social Science

This programme is designed for candidates who wish to continue their first degree in social science. Students will be strengthened with basic social science, especially Business Mathematics, Accounting, Human Resource, Economy and Computer. Students must fulfill the required graduating credit by completing coursework and computer lab. A total of 50 credit hours must be accomplished with a minimum CGPA of 2.0. Upon completion of this programme, student will be awarded with CERTIFICATE OF FOUNDATION PROGRAMME. After completing this programme, social science holder may continue their study in Social Science field for their first-degree, such as Human Resource, Psychology, Management, Education and any other related fields.

Where is the UTM Foundation Programme conducted?

The UTM Foundation Programme will be conducted at the UTM Johor Bahru campus (Physical Science, Life Science Field and Social Science Field) and UTM Kuala Lumpur campus (Physical Science Field only).

 

What is the duration of the study?

It takes a year to complete the UTM Foundation Programme. The students’ academic load is spread over a course of three semesters.
